Sorry for his death and your loss. This reads like a quiet, visceral, and very well balanced report on the unappreciated complexities and tragedies of wartime (in my layman's opinion).

Thank you. Lost in the debate about leaving Afghanistan is the reality that staying wasn't going to solve anything. Perhaps if different decisions had been made early in the war this wouldn't be an issue but within the context of current American politics as well as Afghan politics every choice available was a bad one.

Thanks for this reply- it always seems like an historical trap, this place. Probably volumes have been written as to why(?). I do wonder if Western involvement or influence will continue one way or another, so as to minimize what we see as incoming damage. Or maybe China will finally pave the Wakhan Corridor, re tracing Marco Polo's supposed footsteps?
